MARGAO: Puneet Sagar Abhiyan, a coastal clean-up drive was conducted by the Indian Coast Guard, District 11 through their personnel from ICGS Vaibhav at Velsao Beach in coordination with the Velsao-Pale-Issorcim village panchayat.
Teachers and students from Infant Jesus Academy, members of NGO Goencho Ekvott and villagers of Velsao, Pale, Issorcim, Cansaulim and other nearby villages, lent a helping hand to pick up the waste washed ashore on the Velsao beach.
Orville Dourado Rodrigues, founder member of Goencho Ekvott introduced the local dignitaries comprising Sarpanch Maria Diana Gouveia, Panch Francis Braganza, Panch Rudika Ashlina Antao, ex-Sarpanch Wilson, ex-Panch Ashok Souza, Jude Baretto among others to Commandant Ranjan of the Indian Coast Guard.
Sarpanch Diana Gouveia in her brief speech thanked the personnel of the Indian Coast Guard for selecting the pristine Velsao beach for the cleanliness drive. She also thanked the students & staff of Infant Jesus Academy, Velsao and the local villagers who participated in large numbers in the clean-up drive.
As a goodwill gesture, the Indian Coast Guard presented mementos to the Panchayat.
